The best turn-out of Andover Golfing Society members for a couple of years enjoyed a superb afternoon's golf at Alresford recently.
The day was sponsored by longstanding member Martin Hollis of Martin and Co, who has now clocked up 30 years with the society, including being a previous captain, and who presented the prizes following the evening dinner.
The course was in beautiful condition with the greens particularly fine and the mid-summer sunshine brought out some good scores. Third prize went to David Randall with 32 points, runner-up was Nic Artiss on 36 but the old adage "beware the injured golfer" was proven once again as Wing Cdr Tym Paige-Dickins flew through the field with a bandaged arm to come in with 37 and scoop the trophy. The best scratch score was 83 from Russell Webber, while Harry Noyes was nearest the pin on the tenth. A good attendance is anticipated at the next society meeting at Stoneham on July 24 where members will play for the Alan Potter Memorial Cup, sponsored by the Commercial Centre.
