Historian helps with film script
A RESEARCH historian from the University of Winchester has been hired as a script consultant on a forthcoming World War II film.
Lecturer Thomas French is to work as a consultant on a movie about the life of Japanese pilot Mitsuo Fuchida, who led the attack on Pearl Harbour.
The film, which has a working title of Fuchida, is a true story about the changing attitude of the Japanese military during the Pacific War.
Mr French said he got involved in the film after a chance meeting with its producer, Martin Bennett, at a Tokyo library.
The lecturer, who was in Japan researching his PhD, said: "Martin was having trouble communicating with the staff and finding the materials he wanted, as he couldn't speak Japanese. I helped him out and then we got chatting."
He added the producer then asked him to act as a consultant on the film, to ensure historical accuracy and authenticity of dialogue.
