Couple wed 65 years

A DEVOTED Chandler's Ford couple toasted a remarkable milestone on yesterday (June 26).

Celebrating 65 years of married life 91-year-old Ted Ingram and his wife Trudie, 89, put the their longevity together down to "loving and being kind to one another".

The couple, who spent the majority of their life in Leigh Road, marked their star sapphire anniversary by having cake with staff and fellow residents of Brendoncare, a nursing home in Park Road, Winchester.

Asked how he felt about the reaching the milestone, Mr Ingram said: "I love it. Our secret is being kind to one another and helping one another."

The pair married at an Eastleigh church in 1943 and later had two children, Roger and Geoffrey. Mr Ingram spent his life working as a gardener, most notably at IBM, Hursley, before his retirement in 1982. Prior to having children Mrs Ingram worked at the Pirelli factory in Eastleigh.

Both of them were raised in Leigh Road, Chandler's Ford, and when asked about how they met, Mr Ingram, added: "I used to give her a wink when I was going to work on my bike!"

Daughter-in-law Ann Ingram, said: "They have been a devoted couple. It's most unusual for them to be alive and together at this age."
