Man arrested after motorcycle death

A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a road traffic collision near Winchester.

The 32-year-old man, from Scotland, was riding a black Honda motorcycle, which was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra on the A272 at around 10pm last night (Wednesday, June 25).

It happened on the roundabout where the A272 Spitfire Link road joins the A31.

The motorcyclist was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 21-year-old man from Germany, was uninjured.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failure to stop. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

The road was closed for several hours to allow for a full investigation and recovery of the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either of the vehicles prior to it, is asked to contact Chief Inspector Howard Marrs at the Road Deaths Investigation Team at Eastleigh quoting Operation Danestream on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers, the charity, on 0800 555 111.
