Developer says he’ll build family homes
GIVE the locals what they want, says a developer whose plans for flats to replace houses in Lockerley were recently turned down by Test Valley Borough Council.
William Kirkham, managing director of Scorpion Developments (UK) Ltd, has now revised the scheme at Oval Road to make it more community-friendly.
After speaking to Len Arthur, chairman of Lockerley Parish Council, Mr Kirkham felt that family homes were required in Lockerley as residents were not keen on flats in their community.
"Len felt the priority was to keep the local school alive and all of the associated groups such as Brownies, Guides, Beavers and Scouts," said Mr Kirkham.
"We totally agree and we are looking to provide a scheme of which the residents will be proud and we fully intend working with the parish council and the people of Lockerley."
Scorpion has now applied to build five three-bed properties, more suitable for families.
"Subject to planning, the new houses will boast excellent accommodation and meet all of the new Building Regulations on thermal efficiency and carbon emissions," said Mr Kirkham.
"We will endeavour to ensure that they blend seamlessly into their environment and hopefully boost the number of families in the area."
He has invited comments via e-mail to info@scorpiondevelopments.com.

How on earth can the replacement of two 3-bed houses with five 3-bed houses "blend in seamlessly"? This is high density housing that will ruin the character of the area. why doesn't Mr.Kirkham give up and go build somewhere else. The residents of Lockerley do not want your new houses.

What planet does Mr Kirkham live on? Has he not understood the feelings/Views of the people of Lockerley. Is he so rapped up in his little world of making a quick £ that he turn's around Len Arthur's 'Priory was to keep the school alive' to taking down two 3-bed houses and replacing them with 5 YES 5 3-bed houses.Tony Goodman is so right, its HIGH DENSITY HOUSING.Lockerley is a village not some out of town, over grown waste land.Would Mr Kirkham build them in his own backyard? Orlive/overlook them. And who's going to have the money to buy them.See no movement at the top of the oval, are they sold yet?
