MP says road tax rises will hit rural families

ROMSEY'S MP, Sandra Gidley, has lodged a complaint with Chancellor of the Exchequer Alastair Darling over an estimated £20m rake-off from owners of family car owners in Hampshire.

Figures revealed by the Liberal Democrats showed that drivers of family saloons such as the Ford Mondeo, registered between March 1, 2001, and March 23, 2006, will have to pay over double the current rate of Vehicle Excise Duty by 2010.

This, she said, would rake in around £20m from Hampshire drivers alone on current figures, hitting families who were already feeling the credit crunch. Under new Treasury plans, increases on vehicles currently in Band F, 187to 226g/km carbon dioxide emissions, will see VED rise from £210 this year to £300 in 2009 and as much as £430 in 2010. Band G, over 226g/km in carbon dioxide emissions, could see rises of £40 this year to £440 in 2009 and even £455.

Mrs Gidley has written to the Chancellor to explain the effect of VED rises on older vehicles for essential family car users on tight budgets in rural areas like the Test Valley. She said: "Owners of many family vehicles will see the cost of their tax disc rocket to more than double the current rate over the next two years.

"This will do nothing to change people's driving habits, but it will make a big hole in the pockets of hard-working families."

The Liberal Democrats recently announced a new transport policy, in which green taxes only apply to newly bought cars.

That's not the only thing families have been hit with. Take matters like divorce, council tax hikes, tax credit incompetence, same sex parents, social workers, the sexual revolution, a lack of discipline in the home and school.....all things liberal that Mrs Gidley likes but is breaking up the family unit. Just ways for the state to break us all up and control our lives.
