Ambulance chiefs deny cutbacks to 999 service
AMBULANCE officials in Hampshire have denied that hikes in fuel prices will affect 999 responses.
South Central Ambulance Service, which covers the county, said reports in national and some local newspapers claiming "lives will be lost" if the organisation had to make cutbacks because of fuel costs were untrue.
Spokesperson, Michelle Ullett, said: "In order to provide our service, we must have vehicles on the road and ready to respond when the calls come in. Not refuelling our vehicles in not an option, despite the increase in cost."
She added that the trust would have to look at "making efficiencies in general areas", but this would not affect patient care.
