ANDOVER United Reformed Church has been presented with an oak plaque marking the EcoCongregation award they received in January.
This was the result of over four years' effort to make regard for the environment an integral part of the church's life and activities.
To gain the award its teaching, worship and activities, buildings, gardens, use of energy, local and global community links, recycling and even refreshments and cleaning materials, were all assessed for their ecological impact or connections.

The activities of the Girls Brigade through this period were a significant factor in the church being given the award.
The plaque was presented at a special service in the presence of the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley, Cllr and Mrs Ian Hibbert, and other guests.
The Rev Jill Bentall, of St Thomas' Church, Charlton, who has a long involvement with green issues, made the presentation to Girls Brigade leader Marian Brewer and EcoCongregation action leader Joyce Dinham.
Only 102 churches in England have so far become EcoCongregations.
