New police to go
COUNCILLORS in Tidworth who were promised extra police by divisional commander Julian Kirby at an open meeting in the town have been told the two extra officers are being withdrawn at the end of this month.
The two policemen, sent to the town from Salisbury, have been used to undertake patrols at particularly busy times.
There was some dismay from councillors at the news.
County councillors Mark Connolly, said: "Just three or four months after we met Julian Kirby we hear numbers are going down again.
"Crime figures are showing that Tidworth is becoming more of a problem and we have an assurance that there would be more people here."
Sgt Martin Phipps, explained:"Tidworth hasn't been forgotten about or put out on a limb."
The fact that he was in Tidworth covering for Sgt Mark Freeman showed there was commitment to the town.
