TWO Andover pet owners were left distraught this week after one woman's pet tortoise went missing and another's cat was hurled from a balcony.

Pamela Todd, from Clau-dius Close, Roman Way, was at a wedding when her tortoise Squeak went missing.

It happened while her son was holding the fort at home and had a few friends around.

The event was gatecrashed by about 30 people and when Mrs Todd returned home Squeak was no longer in his tank - leaving his brother tortoise Bubble on his own.

The three-year-old tortoises, which cost Mrs Todd about £150 each, were bought over a year ago.

Now the family is desperate to know what's happened to Squeak.

"We're absolutely devastated that he's been taken from us," said Mrs Todd.

"We've done everything we can to try and find him, we've been to all the local vets, Pets at Home and Romsey's World of Water - but no luck.

"Bubble is at a loss without his brother.

"He just doesn't seem himself but worst of all, Squeak is so small that he needs the warmth from his heat mat to survive."

Mrs Todd is considering offering a reward for her pet's safe return.

"We can't really afford one but we're just so desperate to have him back home with us and his brother."

z A second Andover woman was left distraught when her cat had to be put down after someone hurled him over a balcony in Turin Court.

The incident happened at about 12.30pm on 1 August when the 17-year-old cat, Tonka, was thrown up in the air and over a balcony landing in the garage area - the equivalent of being dropped more than two storeys.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, had given birth just four days before the incident.

Her family took Tonka to a vet but the pet had head injuries and a complicated broken back, leg and pelvis. He was too old to have an anaesthetic and it would have taken months for his leg to heal. The family feared he would have been in constant pain, so reluctantly they had him put to sleep.
