Andover New Street 2
Thatcham Town 5.
Thatcham brought a near full strength side down to New Street for this pre-season game to mark the link up between the two clubs.
Ex-Street player Sam Rae featured for Thatcham and showed how much he has improved by playing a higher standard of football. Thatcham started the stronger as was expected and quickly raced into a 2-0 lead, before New Street had time to think.
Thatcham took their captain off and it left them disorganised and Street's Ben McCready took full advantage of the situation to fire home from distance into the bottom corner. Street gained in confidence and started to move the ball around and were first into challenges and started to make Thatham chase the game and it came as no surprise when Matty Styles grabbed the equaliser on 37 minutes.
Street almost went in front when Vieria broke away and the Brazilian forward was only stopped by a last ditch tackle but justice was not done and Thatcham scored right on half-time.
The second half had no pattern with both sides making several substitutions but Dave Tasker kept Street in the game with several top class saves. Thatcham added a fourth on 65 minutes and expected Street to die off but they kept going and gained control of the game for a period but did not having any reward for the best football they have played for several seasons. Thatcham finally sealed the game in the last few minutes with the fifth.
After the game there was a hog roast in celebration of what is hoped to be a successful link up between both clubs.
