| Quick warm-up waltz: Lionel Blair and Doris Long at the launch of the Help the Aged's National Falls Awareness Day which was sponsored by Stannah Stairlifts at their Andover HQ. |
CELEBRITY Lionel Blair, Test Valley Mayor Brian Page and world record-breaking abseiler Doris Long, aged 94, teamed up with Stannah Stairlifts to host a climbing stunt at its head office in Andover.
The event was to kick off Help the Aged's National Falls Awareness Day (NFAD) on Tuesday.
Stannah Stairlifts, the sponsors of NFAD, is supporting the charity's campaign to improve problem paving and identify trouble spots that may cause injury to older people, who are more likely to lose their footing and fall over.
As well as supporting the overall campaign the company erected an eight-metre high climbing wall on site, with Lionel Blair and the mayor attempting the climb. Stannah Stairlifts' employees scaled it too, to raise extra money but Kim Power from Resonate PR, who helped organise the event, said: "Today is not just about raising money, it's to raise awareness of the problem."
Jon Stannah, MD of Stannah Stairlifts Ltd said: "Hopefully this will bring the issue to the public's attention, and they will speak to their local authority when they see a problem."
Lionel Blair, who was there representing Stage For Age said: "Somebody has got to do something."
