‘Breathing life into bronze is my reward’

A SERIES of stunning sculptures graced the courtyard at Project Workshops' summer exhibition in Quarley.
This year there was a special auction on the gala opening night on Friday, opened by North West Hampshire Sir George Young, which raised.for the Alzheimer's Society.
Star of the show throughout the weekend was Evocation of Speed, a dynamic sculpture by Judy Boyt whose commissions include the Royal Family. Evocation of Speed, however, was commissioned by Epsom Racecourse and vibrantly represents the first winner of the Epsom Derby and the Millennium winner in 2000.
Also on show was Judy's White on White leopard, a free standing monolith in white marble resin; and The Frogball, a ball of large frogs designed to sit on the edge of water.
Judy said: "I am meticulous about research and observation through drawing.
"This gives me the opportunity to learn the character, movement, rhythm, energy and structure of the subject.
"Capturing that living essence, combining it with anatomical study then creating a sculpture of power and presence - that is the challenge. To breathe life into the bronze, that is the reward."
Other special exhibits this year included some large glass sculptures by Sibohan Jones which caught the sunlight creating magical illusions across the courtyard'.
New resident artists this year are knife-maker Geoff Hague, sculptor and portrait artist Amy Goodman, and furniture maker and designer Tim Chadsey.
