Airfield future in hands of planners

PLANNERS will decide the future of an airfield south of Hurstbourne Tarrant, which has been operating without complaint for the past 15 years - but without all the necessary permissions.

An application has been submitted seeking retrospective permission to change the use of land at Bourne Park to allow the storage of 14 fixed wing aeroplanes and use of the existing airstrip, which already has permission for use by Aerofab. Over the past few years the buildings have been used by private planes not necessarily related to Aerofab.

Michael Fowler Architects has told the planners at Test Valley Borough Council the applicants have been careful not to trouble neighbours.

"Aeroplanes have taken off or landed during daylight hours seven days a week and because of their flight direction they have not flown over the village of Hurst-bourne Tarrant," said the architects. "During this 15-year period there has not been a single objection to the flying from the airfield."

The application says no take-off or landing should take place outside daylight hours.

But Smannell Parish Council has objected. "Smannell parish is regularly overflown by aircraft of all types, the villages of Upper Enham and Little London, closest to this airfield, are also affected regularly by low flying Chinook helicopters," said council chairman Phil Duke in a letter of objection.

"The site is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we feel an approved noise abatement statement should be in force for overflying the villages of not only Hurstbourne Tarrant but Upper Enham and Little London.

Cllr Duke comment does not reflect what the residents think, we have had this airfield here for years no problem
He has his own agenda perhaps if the owner of Bourne park supported cllr Dukes own political party this objection would not be coming forward
I was always of the believe Parish Council are Non political clearly mistaken in this case Cllr Mr Duke need to be mindful he is elected to represent our views not his own political stance
We never had this irksome garbage in the past
I have no objection to the planes so carry on.
