Ministry of Defence Police

As an Officer in the Ministry of Defence Police (MDP), you never know what's waiting for you on your next shift. The MDP is an unusual and specialised police force that operates within Britain's defence community.

Whilst performing in some part a civil police role, in the same manner as any of Britain's local police forces, the MDP’s concentration is focused on providing a major armed guarding role at defence sites requiring a high level of security, including the guarding of Britain's nuclear deterrent.

We are a national police force, deployed at over 100 MOD sites across Britain, including AWE Aldermaston and AWE Burghfield.

Many of our tasks are security orientated - safeguarding the perimeters of military bases, protecting against the sabotage of assets and the threat of terrorist incursion. At the same time, our role as a civilian police force is to create a safe environment, free from crime and the fear of crime.

This sees us perform many of the duties associated with other police forces across the country, with the support of specialist units that include the largest fraud squad in the country and marine units that are equipped with the largest number of amphibious craft of any British police force.
